The eleventh Circus Wednesday will be screening the cult 1932 American horror directed by Tod Browning! The film “Freaks” is focused on a group of sideshow performers that impersonate themselves. The storyline follows Cleopatra, a trapeze artist trying to seduce a dwarf Hans and reconquer his wealth, not counting on the revenge of the other circus freaks

The director, in his younger days working in a circus himself, decided to involve physically deformed people in this film, giving them roles of the honoured and the brave, while the real monsters were impersonated by those that might fit into a physical norm, uniting together in order to kill one of the performers for the heredity.

Real bearded women, siamese twins, limbless people, dwarfs… It was all too much for the audience of those times. In Great Britain this film was forbidden for three decades, and the censored scenes where lost forever.

Cirkuska srijedaThe entrance to the Circus Wednesday is traditionally free of charge, and this time there will be two visitors winning a prize – someone will win Mala performerska scena’s horror edition, a book “Scary Stories”, and someone else two tickets for the next Freaky Friday that arrives to Zagreb on a June’s Friday the thirteenth.

Note: Film is in English and is screened without a translation.
