CREATION
What happens to a woman when meeting a child? A child bestowed to her guardianship, her own child or the child within? How much magic must we make to tame the child, yet leave it the joy of creativity? And what is Magic anyway? These are some of the questions that led Dubravka Crnojević-Carić and the three acrobats from Triko on a performing journey. The director immediately offers one of her answers. "Something can be seen as Magic only from the perspective of our denuded everyday life. But if we are open to the fusion of the worlds, fusion of various logics – what we call Magic is no longer the least bit wondrous. The most beautiful thing is connecting what tends to stay unconnected. The biggest excitement comes from examining the boundaries of Rules. Searching for the beautiful and the exciting, three young acrobats from “Poppins Descending” combine the realistic and the surreal, the common and the phantasmagoric, giving themselves away to the Magic they spell with a capital M. Simultaneously, they examine their own femininity and reacquaint themselves with their inner child. They recognize and remove many robes of identity that keep them earthbound. After getting rid of that default burden, they slowly ascend, naked, into heights where forms are fluid and cloudlike. Three young women play but also confess, searching the chambers of memory – entering the remembrance existing outside their 'realistic' lives", the director explains.
Triko was founded in 2004 in order to provide systematic education in circus skills. Apart from the active involvement through organizing workshops, acrobatic events or even the first International convention of acrobats (Korčula in 2008), the members of this group have been fulfilling their potential by creating circus choreographies and performing side roles in plays by professional theatres in Croatia. The most recent ones are multiply awarded play “Midsummer Night's Dream“ in Gavella Theatre, “Grižula“ performed at the Osijek Summer of Culture 2008 and “Cirkuski slonić Charlie“, by Drama studio of the blind and sight impaired “Novi život“. “Poppins Descending” is their first hour-long circus production created for theatre and the first circus performance that will be realized with the promise of support by the Office for Culture of the City of Zagreb (“post-viewing” financing).
Remark: The performance „Poppins Descending“ contains nudity.
“Elevating the cocoon to a height of several meters was the culmination of the event; unravelling cocoon displayed the acrobat Iva Peter-Dragan, whose dance in the air was breathtaking.”

“… and Croatian representatives were Trafik, Ana Rucner, BADco, linkt! and TRIKO. The latter, performing “Žaba koja je htjela postati vol" mark the beginning of Croatian art circus era.”
